In 1969, John and Gail laid the foundation for Headingley Sport Shop, becoming Polaris dealers in a small building on Portage Avenue in Headingley. What began as their winter hobby quickly turned into a community favorite as snowmobiles became a common sight around Charleswood, St. James, and Headingley. In 1971, the shop relocated to a two-bay garage on Bridge Road, and soon after, a larger cinder block building marked their growing success.

Overcoming Challenges and Expanding Horizons

The 1980s brought challenges for the snowmobile industry due to poor snow conditions, but Headingley Sport Shop persevered, thanks to John’s dedication and Gail’s support at the parts counter. Diversification proved key, with the addition of Kawasaki products in 1982. By 1988, the business doubled in size, with a metal-clad building reflecting their progress.

A Family Affair

As the business grew, John’s daughters, Jill and Jody, stepped in to support operations, bringing fresh energy to the team. By 2002, they had taken the reins, purchasing the business from their parents. Under their leadership, the shop expanded to a state-of-the-art 16,000-square-foot facility in 2006 and grew to 20 employees. Their dedication to excellence mirrored their father’s values.

New Generations and Milestones

The third generation joined in 2013, bringing Mitchell, Dusty, and Mindy into the fold. New opportunities emerged, with the addition of Indian Motorcycle in 2014, Triumph in 2019, BMW Motorrad in 2022, and CFMOTO in 2024.
